If your relationship is ending, you will need support, especially if you’ve been together for a long time, have children, have been financial dependent, or if this is a surprise.

Some people know they want out of the relationship for months or even years and can make plans for how things will play out. Because they’ve had a chance to think about it, divorce is somewhat easier for them. For those who are taken by surprise, the experience is more like being hit by a bus.

There are two steps you can take now to set yourself up for a good life after divorce.

  1. The first is the way you divorce. Some ways are better than others. The least conflictual you can manage is the better.
  2. The second step is getting the support you need to navigate your recovery. Divorce is harder than it looks at the outset.

Those who get help have the ability to come out of the experience softer, kinder, more aware. Those who don’t do their recovery work are in danger of coming out of it angry, bitter and brittle.

I developed and taught Beyond Divorce Recovery and Empowerment for many years. Although I no longer teach that course myself, I am happy to help you get what you need to get through this in health and dignity.
